Fiji Swimming to the 2019 Pacific Games

The 16th edition of the Pacific Games in Samoa is due to start in five days. It is an exciting time for competing athletes and sports enthusiasts alike. Apia will be the hub of the Pacific showcasing the region’s finest in sporting excellence. Island nations represented by their athletes, coaches and federations will go head to head, after their last encounter fours ago, in Papua New Guinea . The Games provide a chance to foster relations with their competitive counterparts as symbols of their representative countries as well as an opportunity for athletes to qualify for pipeline international competitions, including the Olympic Games.

This is no less true for the Fiji Swimming Association, who is proud to present and send our well wishes to our swimmers in Team Fiji. Each federation is proud, like swimming, to have our sport be a part of the larger congregation of athletes going forward to represent Fiji. Preparation for this squad goes back to June last year, where swimmers underwent a series of fitness and medical tests. The build up to the games included intense weeks of grueling training sessions. Those days are now memories and reminders of the hardships in preparations and intensity during the meets. The squad comprises of fourteen prominent swimmers, along with a team of five officials that provide the essential basis of an effective management team.

The last games in Port Moresby yielded a tally of twenty-four medals for Fiji. We are looking forward to seeing how our swimmers will perform at this year’s Pacific Games. We are proud of this team who have stepped up to challenge regional powerhouse nations, while also dedicated to honour the standard set by our former Swimming contingents who have attended past years’. Days away from departure, the swimmers are excited to have received a timely boost from Speedo. Speedo’s valuable sponsorship is sure to enhance the performances in Apia as the swimmers race in their new LZR Racer Elite 2 tech suits. On the same note, Fiji Swimming wishes to also thank all our sponsors and supporters who have contributed to the success that we are proud to send to this year’s Pacific Games.
