FIJI SWIMMING WINS 3 GOLDS, 2 BRONZE ON DAY 3 IN SAMOA

Matelita Buadromo wins Gold in the Women’s 50m Breastroke

Fiji Swimming entered into Day 3 of the Pool Competition at the Samoa Aquatic Center yesterday. On the list of events, the program for the evening featured the following:

• Men’s 200m Freestyle

• Women’s 200m Freestyle

• Men’s 100m Backstroke

• Women’s 100m Backstroke

• Men’s 50m Breastroke

• Women’s 50m Breastroke

• Men’s 4 x 100m Freestyle

• Women’s 4 x 100m

Freestyle During the course of competition, unforeseen circumstances varying from physical pressures to health risks, can cause athletes to pull out of events. To ensure the finals have all lanes filled with swimmers, the results rank the top 8 from the heats, with additional swimmers ranking in 9th and 10th place as alternates. These alternates will jump into the final, should one of the top 8 pull out. In this evening’s finals session, Team Fiji Swimming was on it’s feet during the races and right through to the medal ceremonies as our swimmers took to the medal podium.

Day 3 marked a special moment for Fiji Swimming as they finish Day 3 on a historical high with 3 Gold Medals and 2 Bronze.

Matelita won the Gold Medal in the Womens 200m Freestyle Final. Minutes after on the same evening, Herbert Rabua won a bronze in the Men’s 50m Breastroke which geared up the crowd who cheered Fiji’s Moana Wind to her Gold Medal swim in the women’s 50m Breast. With all the excitement in the Aquatic Center, the Fiji Team finished what was already an exhilarating finals, on an ultimate high when the women’s 4 x 100m freestyle relay team won the Gold. The team was made up of Yolani Blake, Rosemarie Rova, Cheyenne Rova, and Matelita Buadromo. Following that race, the last event in the water were the Men’s 4 x 100m freestyle relay team made up of Netani Ross, Taichi Vakasama, Hansel McCaig, and Temafa Yalimaiwai. The team swam a intense race to come out in third place, standing on the podiums at Bronze place to mark an end to a successful evening.
