Pacific Sports Partnership (PSP) is an Australian Aid funded program and the swimming chapter called Let’s Swim, today successfully completed its first day of a 3-day Training-of-Trainers (ToT) workshop at the Damodar City Aquatic Center in Suva. This is the first of two workshops that will be conducted over these two-week school holidays; the next one will be in Nadi next week.
This workshop is aimed at educating Instructors to be informed on the processes and the techniques of how to teach swimming. From the early stages of Learn-to-swim to competitive swimming and squads, to survival and rescue skills.
There are a total of 13 participants taking part in this workshop from various backgrounds including staff of the Aquatic Center, Gospel Primary School, the Uto Ni Yalo voyaging society, Fiji Swimming affiliated instructors, and university students.
Course Presenter, Trisa Cheer-Dunn said, “to satisfactorily complete the course, after the training, participants will need to complete 20 practical hours, pass 6 written exams and be CPR certified. This will allow these participants to teach Learn-to-swim, and even advanced levels.”
Our focus on Capacity Building sets this ToT workshop to equip individuals with the ability to deliver quality swim classes, manage different learning abilities, satisfy the safety requirements, mitigate the risk areas, and establish individuals, schools and programs to develop sustainable programs.
